The Circle of Burning Fuel is a multimedia project that explores the connection between drag racing and Native American spiritual traditions. With a multi screen video installation under development, it currently consists of the A/FX Spirals kinentic sculptures and a series of digitized photo composites .The first piece in the series, Top Fuel of the Four Directions (1993), is a top fuel dragster emerging from a cloud of tire smoke, pointed in four directions. This combines the Native American teachings of facing or moving in the four cardinal directions with the ability to accelerate as quickly as possible by pushing against the earth. Funny Car Flowers (1996) consists of die-cast miniture models of funny cars scanned in front of a photo background in a petal-like mandala arrangement. The Engine Mandalas utilize images of high performance engines transformed into techno-organic mandalas. Originally concieved in 1993, they have been fully realized in an on going series from QuadSOHC(1997) to X(1999). These are presented as a digital output mounted in 1/4"x 2" steel frame and embedded in resin, thus transforming the two dimensional image into a three dimensional object.
