While developing the Sapphire Portal for Burning Man, I applied for a grant for Art in Public Places for a temporary show being held in Taos, New Mexico with a theme of the Earth. Since the center geometries of the Sapphire Portal all relate to the earth's energy's body, I received the grant and had an opening reception fo for the piece after I returned from Burning Man with it.
