Saturn Tables
are a series of sculptures based on the planet Saturn: a rotatable coral
keystone sphere (colored and flattened proportionally to the shape of
the planet) surrounded by a thin etched stainless steel ring supported
by a torch cut steel base. The original table (1988) consisted of a 10"
diameter sphere surrounded by a 30" diameter ring supported by a 16" high
base. It was followed in 1991 by a version 80% in all dimensions (an 8"
sphere, 24" ring and 13" base) that was photographed in the Saturn
Table Tour all over the country in spectacular landscapes. There
is also a table high version of this size: Saturn
Cafe Table and the accompaning Pluton
Chairs. It is now planned to create a series of Saturn Tables
ranging in size from approximately 1" to as large as 15 feet across, in
time for the Cassini spacecraft's visit to the planet in 2004.
